  • 1,000 Oak Tree Program

THE CITY OF OAKLEY IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE COMPLETION OF THE
    1,000 OAK TREE PROGRAM.

The 1,000 Oak Tree program was launched on March 15, 2008 with a proclamation made by the  City Council declaring the day Arbor Day. The goal was to reach 1,000 Oak Trees planted by the end of our Decennial Year - June 2010. The City wanted to ensure the heritage of Oakley and preserve the Oak Trees which are part of the namesake. The first 100 trees were planted the first Arbor Day 2008 at Laurel Ball Fields by the ROP Native Nursery Students, the Antioch Church of Christ Youth Group and Oakley Residents.

Throughout the last year and a half, residents and community groups have planted trees on their private property and at City Parks. The trees came from many places - donated by residents, grown from seedlings by the parks departments, or purchased.

It was very fitting that the 1,000 Oak Tree goal was reached this weekend on Earth Day 2010. Thank you to all who participated in the program. It was a huge success.
