    CHIEF OF POLICE BIOGRAPHY

    Chris Thorsen serves as the Oakley Chief of Police, bringing 22 years of experience in Law Enforcement with him.  He received a Bachelor's Degree in Administration of Justice and enjoys the excitement which his job brings.  Chris Thorsen has stated that he has been blessed with a "high-quality staff" which enables him and the Police Department, as a whole, to keep Oakley a safe and enjoyable place to live.  The Oakley Police Department has an open door policy, where members of the Oakley community are welcomed and encouraged to address the police staff with any comments, questions or concerns they may have about the wellbeing of Oakley.  Outside of work, Chris enjoys coaching baseball and spending time with his wife Anne and his two children, Trevor and Taylor.

    DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

    The specific responsibilities of the Police Department include:

    • Protecting life and property while preserving the peace
    • Enforcing local, state and federal laws
    • Building and maintaining a partnership with members of the community to achieve permanent solutions to crime and its contributing problems
    • Arresting and prosecuting criminal offenders whose activities adversely impact the quality of life in our community
    • Maintaining its staff of twenty-eight officers, three parking enforcement officers, and two part-time clerks

    GOAL

    To provide the training, tools and positive work environment necessary for members of the Police Department to successfully tend to their responsibilities.


     

    DID YOU KNOW

    The Oakley Police Department has grown to include a Traffic Safety Program, School Resource Officer Program, and a Problem Oriented Policing Program.
